Learning Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide knoledge on reciprocating machines (basically reciprocating compressors and pumps). Basically thermo-fludodynamic aspects will be analysed with the aim of investigating the main design criteria and how to analyse the machine performance.
Prerequisites
The basic concepts of technical physics are required
Teaching Methods
The course syllabus is carried out by means of lectures with the support of slide projection.
Type of Assessment
The exam is based on an oral discussion on generally 3 topics of the syllabus. It allows to evaluate the comprehension of the reciprocating connections of the main concepts. Moreover the appropriated use of the technical words has taken into account.
Course program
- Fields of employment, typical parameters, geometrical and cinematic quantities.
- Indicated and effective quantities, characteristic curves.
- Power control and regulation:
- Overview on the main applications
- Automatic valves in reciprocating compressors
