Incoming Students

Incoming Erasmus & Exchange Students

The International Relations Office promotes student exchange and provides information and assistance to all students participating in study abroad programs. A substantial part of this activity is devoted to the orientation and support of foreign students, to whom the following sections are addressed.

Application and Enrolment Procedure

Step 1: Nomination – for Partner Universities Coordinators

To be accepted at the School of Engineering, the HOME INSTITUTION of selected Erasmus+ or Cooperation Agreement students must send an official nomination to the International Relations Office at international@ingegneria.unifi.it within the following dates:

  • 1st Semester / Full Year: 15th March – 31st May
  • 2nd Semester: 1st September – 31st October

Nomination must include for each student:

  • Erasmus University Code
  • Student’s Name and Surname
  • Email address
  • Field of study
  • 1st or 2nd cycle Degree course
  • Period (first/second semester, full year)

Step 2: Application – for nominated students

After receiving the nomination, the office will contact the student by email, providing instructions for the application. Documents must be sent within the following deadlines:

  • 1st Semester / Full Year: 30th June
  • 2nd Semester: 30th November

Required documents:

  • Enrolment Form: signed and stamped by home institution (mandatory)
  • Learning Agreement: via EWP or downloaded and emailed
  • Certificate of language knowledge: Italian B1, English B2
  • Copy of ID card (EU) or passport (non-EU)
  • Transcript of Records (Bachelor and Master)

Step 3: Before Arriving in Florence

The Office verifies documentation, signs the Learning Agreement, and sends formal acceptance along with instructions for tax ID (“codice fiscale”).

Register online before arrival: online registration (see instructions pdf).

Step 4: Upon Arrival in Florence – Check-in

Start date coincides with the first business day after your travel. Attach travel document to email. Non-EU students must also send passport and visa (if needed). For visa info: Universitaly. Residence permit required if stay > 90 days.

You will receive a digital statement of arrival, student ID (numero di matricola), access to GCS Student Career Management, and Unifi email (name.surname@stud.unifi.it).

Update your personal page with Italian information (domicile, phone) after enrolment.

Courses Information

Students may attend all courses available at the School, as listed in the Guida dello studente.

Annual course catalog: Offerta formativa section

Courses taught in English A.Y.2025-26

“Laboratorio” exams: pass/fail system, no grade, credits earned.

Students may exceptionally choose exams from other schools.

Check current courses: Ricerca Insegnamenti.

Include alphanumerical codes in Learning Agreement (ex: TECNICA DELLE COSTRUZIONI – B019542). Recommended: 30 ECTS/semester, 60 ECTS/full year.

Online services: Moodle (link), accessible after enrolment. Moodle is for materials only, not for exam registration.

Changes to Learning Agreement & Extension

Course changes allowed once per semester. Deadlines:

  • 1st semester: 15th November
  • 2nd semester: 15th April

Procedure: download form → send to Erasmus coordinator (sign/stamp) → send to International Office → Office signs → Student Office updates study plan.

Extension: request within 1 month before Erasmus end, max total 12 months, must finish by 30th September.

Check-out – End of Erasmus Period

Check-out date: last exam or end of classes/traineeship. Verify exams in GCS Student Career Management. Submit “esami sostenuti” form (rtf / pdf).

Certification of Stay and Transcript of Records issued by the Office upon check-out. After check-out, no exams or activities can be registered.

Language Requirements

Most courses are in Italian. Courses fully in English: Geoengineering, Mechanical Engineering for Sustainability, Management Engineering.

List of Courses taught in English

  • Italian B1 mandatory for Italian courses. 
    We accept the following: language certifications issued by recognized Italian language schools, University Language Centers, home universities (through official declarations), or high school diplomas from bilingual schools where Italian is one of the languages. We also accept certifications ussued from CLIQ.
  • English B2 mandatory for English courses.

Free Italian language courses at CLA are available, but cannot be included in Learning Agreement.

Even for English-only courses, B1 Italian is strongly recommended for daily life in Florence.

UniFi does not provide directly any kind of accomodation.

Accomodation for Exchange Students in DSU Toscana campus:

DSU Toscana campuses are reserved for students enrolled in Tuscany who have won a scholarship and accommodation grant.

For international mobility students (e.g., Erasmus) and other users (such as researchers and professors) accomodation is only possible if there are temporarily vacant beds in the facilities (for example, when a resident student is away on international mobility programs).

If you are interested, you must send a request via email for temporary accommodation to the Residence Service at: residenze.fi@dsu.toscana.it. You must attach a PDF of you ID\passport and a certificate proving your participation to a mobility program at UniFi.

The rent depends on the room type but ranges between €277.00 and €327.00 per month.  Payment must be made by the 10th of each month through the following platform: PORTALE IRIS.

The ECTS Tables of University of Florence are available online and provide grade conversion transparency. Organized by degree programme and academic level.

Information included:

  • National grading scale
  • Statistical distribution of positive grades
  • Cumulative percentages
  • Comparison with former ECTS grading scale (A-E)

A – Excellent – 10%
B – Very Good – 25%
C – Good – 30%
D – Satisfactory – 25%
E – Sufficient – 10%
