Safety training courses

What are Safety Training Courses?

Completion of the Safety Training Course in the Workplace is mandatory for attending courses that require access to laboratories, practical exercises in external facilities, and internships, in compliance with Italian law D.Lgs 81/08 on workplace safety.

Once you are enrolled and have received your student ID and password for accessing online services, it is recommended to register immediately for the safety training courses, as attendance and successful completion are required to access laboratories and participate in practical exercises.

Course Structure

Safety training courses are divided into two parts: general training and specific training. Both parts must be completed to obtain the certificate required for laboratory access, external exercises, and internships.

Note: Specific training is not required for Computer Engineering students, who only need to complete the general training and the in-person test.

Part 1: General Training (e-learning, 4 hours)

The online course is mandatory to attend classroom-based courses and covers key topics on health and safety in the workplace according to D.Lgs 81/08. The course is delivered via e-learning and lasts approximately four hours. A final mandatory test will be held together with the first test of the classroom courses.

Students can register using their University credentials on Moodle.

Exemption: If you have already obtained a basic safety certificate at high school or at other institutions/universities, send your certificate to formazione.sicurezza@spp.unifi.it requesting exemption from the online general training.

Part 2: Specific Training for Your Degree Programme

To enroll, you must have completed the 4-hour e-learning general training. To check available courses and register, access the Ateneo Event Registration platform for laboratories and specific risk safety courses with your University credentials.

Students exempted from the general training must request registration for the specific training by writing to sicurezza@ingegneria.unifi.it, providing:

  • Subject line: Name, Surname, Student ID – Degree Programme
  • Email body: "I have received exemption from the online general training. I request enrollment in the specific risk course (insert course code and name as listed in the Specific Courses Calendar)"
  • Attach the exemption confirmation received from the Safety Training Office.

To be valid, attendance of at least 90% of the total classroom hours is required.

Final Test and Certification

After completing both the online and classroom training, a final test will be administered. A certificate valid for 5 years across Italy will be issued (unless changes in risk conditions occur). The certificate will be sent by email in the weeks following successful completion of the test.

Additional Information

  • Duration of the specific training course varies by Degree Programme.
  • To obtain the certificate allowing laboratory access, all modules must be passed in a single attempt. Missing any module requires retaking the entire course.
  • Maximum number of students per course: 35.
  • To verify course completion before receiving the certificate, log in with your University credentials to the Ateneo Event Registration platform for laboratories and specific risk safety courses via the Student Online Services area.
