The PhD program prepares researchers and experts in the field of Industrial Engineering, providing the skills needed to conduct high-level research in universities, public institutions, and companies, as well as to lead technical development in national and international contexts.
The PhD in Industrial Engineering focuses on training specialists in innovative aspects ranging from Materials Science and Manufacturing Processes to Mechanical Engineering, from Energy (with emphasis on renewable sources, efficiency, and energy systems) to Management and Organization of Production Systems.
The offered curricula are:
This PhD program aims to train researchers capable of carrying out high-quality research in the field of Information Engineering, both in academic and non-academic research institutions, as well as in industrial R&D centers.
The course covers all topics related to Information Engineering, organized into four curricula:
The PhD in Smart Computing addresses the most innovative research topics in computer science and information processing technologies, including artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, computer vision, big data analytics, optimization, Internet of Things, cognitive computing, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, blockchain, pervasive computing, social computing, reconfigurable computing, embedded systems, and distributed systems.
Research in this program includes both the theoretical development and analysis of algorithmic, mathematical, and engineering methodologies, as well as their practical applications in various sectors with strong applied relevance, such as healthcare, energy, transportation, environment, security, surveillance, industrial systems, entertainment, and social issues.
Interdisciplinary applications of “intelligent” or “smart” computational techniques to more traditional scientific areas, such as biology, physics, and medicine, are also significant. Overall, the PhD topics fall within a highly strategic domain for technological and industrial growth and development.
The International Doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering (InDiCEE) trains international experts and researchers in Civil and Environmental Engineering. InDiCEE offers a PhD program in partnership with a foreign university, leading to a double or joint degree.
The topics cover both core and innovative subjects in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with particular attention to the sustainability of the built environment and ecological transition, innovative materials to support development, risk mitigation and prevention, and safe and sustainable urban mobility.
InDiCEE is organized into three curricula:
A day promoted by the four PhD programs of the School of Engineering at the University of Florence aimed at fostering interaction among PhD students, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience across different research areas, and facilitating meetings with the business world.
