Course teached as: B003988 - COSTRUZIONI IN ZONA SISMICA Second Cycle Degree in BUILDING ENGINEERING
Teaching Language
Italian
Course Content
Characteristics of earthquakes and their origins
Performance-based design: general concepts
Design of steel and R/C structures by the traditional ductility-based approach
Ductility-based design. Concept of Ductility. Linear and non linear seismic analysis methods. Seismic protection strategies by means of base isolation and damped braces.
The course aims at providing the students the capability of designing steel and R/C framed structure in seismic zones, also applying advanced seismic protection technologies.
Teaching Methods
The course consists in theoretical lessons and the development of a design exercise by the students. This exercise consists in the drafting of the structural design of a building in seismic zone. The project must be presented at the final examination also to check the theoretical knowledge acquired during the course.
Type of Assessment
A project of a R/C (or steel) new structure should be presented at the final test verification. The design should be carried out by applying both traditional and advanced technologies. The discussion will concern the topics dealt with in the course.
