The International Relations Office promotes student exchange and provides information and assistance to all students participating in these study abroad programs. A substantial part of this activity is devoted to the orientation and support of foreign students, to whom the following sections are addressed.
Step 1: NOMINATION – for Partner Universities Coordinators
In order to be accepted by the School of Engineering, the HOME INSTITUTION of students selected within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme or the Cooperation agreement must send an official NOMINATION to the International Relations Office (international@ingegneria.unifi.it ) within the following dates:

In order to fill in the Learning Agreement, the courses information can be found on www.ingegneria.unifi.it clicking on SCUOLA – DIDATTICA – OFFERTA FORMATIVA
All required documents should be sent by e-mail to international@ingegneria.unifi.it.
Step 3: BEFORE ARRIVING IN FLORENCE
The International Relations Office verifies that your documentation is correct, signs the Learning Agreement and sends you formal “acceptance as an Erasmus mobility student at the University of Florence” email, along with useful information for your stay in Florence, including instructions for requesting your tax identification number (“codice fiscale”).
Before arriving in Florence, please register online by entering your personal information (see the instructions pdf).
Step 4: UPON ARRIVAL IN FLORENCE: CHECK-IN
The start date of the Erasmus period coincides with the business day (Monday to Friday) following your travel day as certified by your travel document (e.g., airline ticket, boarding pass, train ticket, highway toll payment receipt, etc.).
Attach a copy of your travel document to your email. If the travel document is not in your name, specify this in the email, and the Office will get back to you.
If you are a student from outside the European Union, in addition to your travel document, you must also send a copy of your passport with a student visa (if required). For visa information, see the Universitaly website. If the mobility period is longer than 90 days, a residence permit is also required.
In the following days, after completing the procedure, you will receive the “statement of arrival” in digital format. You will also receive your student id number, (numero di matricola) for access to the GCS Student Career Management (the password is the one chosen during online pre-registration) and your Unifi email address (name.surname@stud.unifi.it) that you must use for all communication with Unifi Offices.
After your enrolment, you need to update your personal page on GCS Student Career Management with your Italian personal information (e.g., domicile in Florence and Italian phone number). It is important that you keep it up to date.
Course Selection:
Students may attend all courses available at the School, as listed in the Online Course Catalogue.
The School provides a document with all English-taught courses to facilitate the selection. If a link in the document does not work, follow these instructions .
please note:
Online services: Moodle (link), accessible after enrolment. Moodle is for materials only, not for exam registration.
Academic Calendar:
After starting classes, you may change the courses that do not suit you, but remember that you are allowed to do changes to the original study plan just one time per semester. Therefore, we advise you not to make changes immediately.
Change deadline:
- 1st semester: 15th November
- 2nd semester: 15th April
Here is the procedure for changing your classes:
Please note that in order to successfully complete the change of your study plan, you have to use our form and following our procedure. If your home university needs the same procedure, we will be happy to sign also the document provided by your Home Institution but this cannot replace ours.
EXTENSION
The student can ask for an extension of the study period within one month before the end of his/her Erasmus. The extension can be up to a period of a total of 12 months but remember that you have to end your Erasmus mobility by 30th of September. Here is the procedure for extending your mobility:
The closing date of your Erasmus in Florence coincides with the date of the last exam, passed or not, or the end date of classes if no exam was taken. In the case of traineeships, the end date of the mobility coincides with the end date of the activity.
Before checking out, check on GCS Student Career Management to see whether all examinations have been recorded, fill out the “esami sostenuti” form (rtf - pdf), and submit it to international@ingegneria.unifi.it
To avoid delays in the issuance of the final Transcript of records, while in Florence, check periodically on GCS Student Career Management the transcripts of exams taken. It is important that records are kept, even of failed exams. Hence, it is your responsibility to ask so to each Professor specifically.
By submitting the form, you communicate that you have completed the activities and wish to receive the Certification of Stay and Transcript of records. The Office will close the mobility and send the Certification of Stay and Transcript of records by email to the home university and in copy to the student
You have formally ended your Erasmus mobility period in Florence by checking out. Therefore, you can no longer take exams or other educational activities
The Certification of Stay issued upon arrival and departure is in Unifi format. No other form or declaration will be signed.

The ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) Tables of the University of Florence are available on the University’s official website. These tables have been prepared in accordance with the ECTS Users’ Guide 2015 and are intended to facilitate grade conversion within the framework of international mobility programmes. They provide a transparent description of how the University applies the national grading scale.
The tables are organized by degree programme (or degree class) and by academic level (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Single-Cycle Degree Programmes). They include the following information:
· the national grading scale currently in use, highlighted in yellow within the tables;
· the statistical distribution of positive grades awarded to students enrolled in a specific degree programme (or degree class);
· the cumulative percentages, also highlighted in yellow, which represent the progressive sum of the percentages associated with each grade;
· a comparison with the former ECTS grading scale (A, B, C, D, E), for partner institutions that still adopt it.
ECTS Grading Scale
A – Excellent – 10%
B – Very Good – 25%
C – Good – 30%
D – Satisfactory – 25%
E – Sufficient – 10%
The tables are subdivided by School. To consult the individual grade distribution tables for School of Engineering please refer to the following link:
